What documents and procedures are required to rent?
DRIVING LICENSE
  • A driving license is required. the indispensable document for renting, without it it is not necessary; It is not possible to rent in any way.
  • The license number, place, issue date and expiry date must always be correctly transcribed on the Rental Agreement.

General driving license rules:

  • The mandatory documents required for the rental are: the driver's license, the driver's ID card or passport, and a credit card in the name of the driver.
  • All documents must be presented in original format, must be valid, and must not show abrasions or corrections unless authenticated by the competent Authorities. The driver's license must have been issued at least 24 months before the vehicle pickup date and must have an expiration date beyond the rental end date.
  • All valid driver's licenses issued by a European Union Member State are accepted for rental. Driver’s licenses issued by a non-EU country must be accompanied by an international driver’s license. An exception is made for UK-issued driver’s licenses, which are accepted on par with licenses issued in EU Member States.
  • The credit card must be a Visa or MasterCard and must be in the driver’s name, with an expiration date of at least 6 months beyond the rental end date. In the absence of a credit card, a debit card can be used only by purchasing additional coverage (liability reduction) directly at the rental counter and paying the applicable surcharge for the use of a debit card, as indicated in the rental conditions.
  • The costs of additional coverage (liability reduction service) indicated on the website are only valid for online bookings and do not apply to the same extent at the rental counter, where they may vary.
  • Additional coverage, if not added during the online booking process, can be requested and purchased directly at the rental counter at the updated counter price.
  • The function of the additional coverage is described in the tooltip that appears when hovering over the question mark next to the coverage name in the selection interface for additional services, after selecting your vehicle.
What is the minimum age required of the driver to rent the vehicle?

The age of the required by ECH to rent cars is required. so; regulated:

  1. Minimum Age: 21 years, in possession of a valid driving license, issued for at least 2 years
  2. Maximum age: 75 years until the end of the rental, in possession of a valid driving license issued for at least 2 years. In the event that during the car collection phase it is ascertained that the minimum and/or maximum age requirements are not met, ECH could refuse to deliver the vehicle. In these cases, there will be no refund of the amount already paid
  3. For vehicles belonging to groups A1, A2, A5, A6, B1, B2, the "Young age" supplement is applied to drivers aged between 21 and 24 who have held their driving license for at least 2 years. For vehicles belonging to groups C2 and C6, the "Young age" supplement is applied to drivers aged between 22 and 26 who have held their driving license for at least 2 years. For vehicles belonging to groups D2 and V1, the "Young Age" supplement is applied to drivers between the ages of 25 and 29 who have held their driving license for at least 2 years. It is not possible to rent a vehicle of a certain category if you are neither within the minimum age nor within the age of application of the "Young Driver" surcharge. The local rental station reserves the right to refuse the rental to the Client under the minimum age. For more information please call the ECH offices.
Which are the rental station working hours?

·  Palermo: every day from 8:00 AM to 9:30 PM

·  Trapani: every day from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM

·  Catania: every day from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM

·  Pisa: every day from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM

The out-of-hours service is available upon request and agreement with the rental station and comes with an additional cost. The out-of-hours fee can be prepaid during the booking process (if the indicated time falls outside the station's operating hours) or paid at the counter (if requested after the booking). The cost of the out-of-hours service is regulated as follows:

PMO (Palermo station):

for pickup from 21:31 to 22:30 = € 60 vat included

for pickup from 22:31 to 23:30 = € 80 vat included

for pickup from 23:31 onwards = € 100 vat included

 

CTA (Catania station), PSA (Pisa station), TPS (Trapani station):

for pickup from 22:01 to 23:00 = € 60 vat included

for pickup from 23:01 to 24:00 = € 80 vat included

for pickup from 24:01 onwards = € 100 vat included

 

 

It is possible to return the vehicle to a different rental station?

It is possible to return the vehicle to a different station from the pick-up location (one-way service), but only at stations within Sicily (Palermo, Trapani, Catania) and only by agreeing in advance with the pick-up rental station or by indicating the preference at the time of booking. The one-way service has an additional cost to be paid at the time of booking (if the return station has been agreed upon and accepted) or at the rental counter if the request is made afterwards. The cost of the service is as follows:

  • From Trapani to Palermo (and vice versa) € 80 VAT included
  • From Trapani to Catania (and vice versa) € 160 VAT included
  • From Palermo to Catania (and vice versa) € 160 VAT included
My request is being processed, what does it mean?

If after booking you receive an email that says:

 

“Your request, number ###, is currently being processed by our reservation system. We will send you an order confirmation or cancellation email within three days.”

 

Don’t worry, it simply means that you have chosen a type of vehicle or delivery times that require our manual intervention in order to better organize and provide you with the best service (this is known as an "on-request" booking).

 

We generally process all requests within the same day, but a response is always guaranteed within a maximum of 3 days.

 

If your booking is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email with the rental voucher attached.


If the booking is rejected, you will receive a notification email informing you of the cancellation. In this case, the amount held for the booking will be released by the bank within a few hours, although depending on the bank’s processing times, it may take up to 24 hours.
